FIVE QUESTIONS FOR
DOMINIC MATTMAN OF READ JONES CHRISTOFFERSEN
For this issue of the Playlist we spoke with Dominic Mattman, the Project Engineer in charge of the Structural Engineering of Massey Tower. He graduated from UBC with a Masters of Earthquake and Structural Engineering before beginning his career in the Vancouver office of Read Jones Christoffersen (RJC). He was loaned to RJC’s Toronto office to work on FIVE Condos (another MOD Development) with Dr. Tibor Kokai.
Lured by the big(ger) city and the soaring heights of construction, he transferred to the Toronto office in 2012 and began working on The Massey Tower shortly thereafter. In 10 years with RJC, Dominic has worked on primarily mid- to high-rise residential/office developments from Las Vegas to Saint John, New Brunswick.
FAVOURITE PART OF MASSEY TOWER?
Definitely the complex nature of the site, given that the footprint is so tight. Every day poses a new challenge which means I get to be a creative problem solver. It keeps things interesting for sure. I’m getting very excited to start on the parking garage (the first of its kind for me) and the amenity floor.
FAVOURITE MASSEY HALL MOMENT?
One of my favorite bands did a limited 10 city tour, with Massey Hall being the only Canadian stop. They played an unbelievable 3hr show!!
GORDON LIGHTFOOT OR RUSH?
WINE & CHEESE OR BEER & PRETZELS?
My dad was a chef, so I definitely have good appreciation for food and wine pairing. With a meal, I prefer a nice red wine, but otherwise an ice-cold local beer.
Do everything in life with integrity.
